With degrees in both Geosciences and the History of Science and Medicine, Jeffrey's interests span the intersections between science, technology, media, and society. With a specific interest in science and technology in twentieth-century American culture, Jeffrey has published articles on the history of the waffle iron in America (Petit Propos Culinaire), fish preservation through time (The Graduate Journal of Food Studies), and how the Sondheim musical Company conveys 1960s understandings of the human sciences (History of the Human Sciences), among other topics.

In the classroom, Jeffrey has taught across disciplines and grade levels from middle school geology to tenth grade chemistry to twelfth grade English. In the sciences, Jeffrey strives to create a classroom that demonstrates science as an ever-evolving, sometimes-fallible process. He does so through a combination of extensive inquiry-based activities and an emphasis on the historical and sociocultural contexts in which scientific knowledge has been developed. Lofty ideals aside, he sees teaching as a deeply emotional process, so he works to create a fun, engaging, and light-hearted classroom where students feel comfortable engaging and taking risks.

Jeffrey's work in education expands beyond his research and teaching. While at Bain and Company, he helped develop a grant program for innovative postsecondary education pathways, and he has worked as both the corporate strategy director and chief of staff (for Heinemann) at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, one of the nation's leading K-12 education companies. 

When not thinking about science and society, Jeffrey can be found baking snickerdoodles, reading in coffee shops, watching theater, or kayaking.
